World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5. We celebrate on this day, dedicating the activities to the 50th anniversary of the designation of June 5 as World Environment Day by the United Nations and the 80th anniversary of our eternal minister Dr. Rosa Elena Simeón Negrín, a woman who dedicated her life to Science and the protection of the Environment in its broadest sense and was the founding minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
On this occasion, the fundamental theme is aimed at disseminating good practices associated with the efficient handling of single-use plastics, highlighting that more than 400 million tons of plastids are produced worldwide each year, estimating that more than half are produced for be used only once and less than 10% is recycled. Our country does not escape these effects, in this sense we reorganize efforts through substantial changes driven by policies and daily elections that guide us towards cleaner and more ecological lifestyles.

Objective of the day
- Disseminate the ideas and principles promoted by Dr. Rosa Elena Simeón Negrín in environmental protection.
- Raise awareness among the different target audiences about the adverse effects of pollution and disseminate good practices associated with the efficient management of single-use plastics.
- Present on the importance of adopting a transition strategy towards a circular economy for Cuba and in the province of Villa Clara.
- Disseminate information on the most relevant events in the national and provincial environmental sphere.
