The updated list of the World Ranking of Scientists (AD Scientific Index) for 2024, published by the Cuban magazine Juventud Técnica, today places Cuban researchers and institutions at the forefront of that classification.
This classification and analysis system is based on the research performance and productivity of academic institutions globally.
For its selection, a comparative analysis derived from data from six previous years, obtained from the Google Scholar platform, was taken into account, as recently revealed by that media outlet.
According to the ranking, for Cuba, doctors Pedro A Valdés from the Center for Neurosciences, the professor at the University of Havana, René Delgado, and his colleague from the Central University of Las Villas Marta Abreu, Yovani Marrero, stand out.
Among the higher education institutions, the following were recognized: the University of Las Tunas, the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte, the University of Computer Sciences (UCI), the Technological University of Havana José Antonio Echeverría, while in the field of research the Center for Engineering, Genetics and Biotechnology of this capital.
In total, some 2,507 professionals from 44 institutions in the largest of the Antilles were inducted with this result, clarified in its Technical Youth report.
Exactly on January 15, the Caribbean island will celebrate Cuban Science Day, and these results support the country’s efforts to promote an area of utmost importance, as conceived by the leader of the revolution Fidel Castro 34 years ago.
In Latin America, the University of Panama stood out by taking first place, for three consecutive years, while on an individual level, the Mexican researcher Heriberto Castilla, from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the Aztec nation, was one of the most relevant.
For this edition of its choice, The AD Scientific Index of 2024 included a total of one million 443 thousand 88 professionals from 219 countries and 22 thousand 774 scientific centers.
