These words of the General Secretary of the United Nations, António Guterres, become relevant when in various countries experts, young people and professionals hold debates to place science, technology and innovation at the center of sustainable development programs.

During a forum of the United Nations Organization in December 2013, the said body recognized the access and full participation of women and girls in the scientific field are essential to achieve gender equality and female empowerment.

Three years later, the UN General Assembly instituted the International Day of Women and Children in Science with the purpose of promoting greater participation and leadership of the female sex in research work and inspiring girls.

According to government data, such as limitations, women tend to receive more modest research grants than their male colleagues. Despite the fact that they represent 33.3 percent of all researchers, only 12 percent of the members of national scientific academies are women.

Also, in cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence, only one in five professionals is female. In the case of Cuba, government policies draw as a line a greater visualization of women in the scientific field, which exhibits as an achievement that 53 percent of all academics -more than 86 thousand- are female.

The authorities and the Cuban people highlighted on various occasions the decisive contribution of women in the scientific tasks of the Revolution, which contribute to economic development and the innovative transformation of society.
