The Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) association today recognized the island’s scientific achievement in creating five vaccine candidates against Covid-19 and the possibility of immunizing its entire population this year.
In his weekly publication Le Lettre Électronique Hebdo, he stressed that the Caribbean country projects those results amid the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for six decades.
The great powers injected considerable sums of public money into the pharmaceutical multinationals to obtain vaccines, while a small island of only 11 million inhabitants and blocked by the most powerful nation in the world was able to do it on its own, he stressed.
According to the French organization founded in 1995 to promote bilateral cooperation, Cuba will undoubtedly be the first country on the planet to protect its entire population against Covid-19 with its own immunizing agents.
CubaCoop also exposed to its readers the confidence that Cuban vaccines will reach other peoples in need. He also highlighted a recent publication by the prestigious medical journal The Lancet on the island’s health achievements, particularly in the field of vaccine production.
The biotechnological investigations that guarantee these results date back to the 80s of last century, when Fidel Castro opted for the development of this sector in the face of the US blockade, said the association, enrolled in dozens of cultural and socioeconomic cooperation projects in Cuba during the last 20 years.
In its Lettre Électronique Hebdo, the organization mentioned products such as Soberana 02, Abdala and Soberana Plus and the immunization in the Caribbean nation of around half a million human beings against Covid-19 to date.
The Cuban government plans to protect 70 percent of the population with its own vaccines for the summer.
“This is what Cuba is doing and we cannot stop supporting their efforts,” said CubaCoop.
