Villa Clara’s disposition did not wait in view of the dramatic situation that the people of Turkiye and Syria are experiencing due to the recent earthquakes, and in the next few hours a delegation will leave for that cone of the Asian continent.

From the Cuban capital, Arelys Tejeda Márquez, in charge of international collaboration in the provincial Health Department, told us that the participants will be part of the brigades of the Henry Reeve contingent, with specialized personnel for disaster situations and serious epidemics, which on multiple occasions have defied the dangers in order to embrace different latitudes of the world in solidarity.

The official, who is in Havana finalizing details, reported that, until the end of Thursday morning, our representatives had not left for their destinations, and the group is made up of a doctor specialized in Clinical Laboratory, who must go to the front from one of the brigades, as well as an epidemiologist, and two intensive care nurses who will offer their knowledge and experiences in Turkiye.

Arelys Tejeda also added that the list of experts in the province includes a Hygiene graduate to provide his services in Syria.

International experts affirm that these sudden tremors are among the most devastating in recent years due to the combination of the intensity of the earthquake, its depth, geographical location, the type of fault that generated it and the length or power of the aftershocks.

The first episode was recorded in the early hours of this Monday near the Turkish town of Gaziantep when its inhabitants were sleeping and registered a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale.

Although earthquakes are usually followed by less intense aftershocks, the second event that occurred, on Monday itself, had a similar record of 7.5 on that scale.

From the point of view of experts, it is something that only usually occurs in 10% of the phenomena, while arguing the impossibility of knowing when or where the next episode will occur.

In Turkiye alone, at least 16,170 people have died, according to the latest revelations offered by the president of that country Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The largest magnitude recorded since earthquakes have been measured was the one that took place in Chile in 1960, which reached 9.5.
