This is #Cuba #CubaViva ‘, he added. The day before, health authorities of the Caribbean country announced that 70 percent of the Cuban population will be immunized against SARS-Cov-2 between July and August of this year, thanks to a staggered vaccination strategy, which involves different population groups between 19 and 80 years old.
In the Mesa Redonda radio and television program, Ileana Morales, director of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Public Health, explained that the first step for this are the Second phase, III clinical trials that are currently being carried out.
As part of these actions, 44 thousand 10 people will be inoculated with Soberana-02 in Havana, and 48 thousand with Abdala in the eastern part of the country. To this are added two intervention studies to evaluate efficacy in risk groups: the first began in the capital this Monday and will include 150 thousand volunteers, and the second will begin soon and foresees the inclusion of 120 thousand subjects from the provinces of Santiago de Cuba , Granma and Guantánamo (east).
The purpose is to gradually immunize the population, so that between April and May 1.7 million people will be protected against the virus. Later, the research will be extended to other population groups, in a larger trial with both vaccine candidates.
According to the explanation offered, vulnerable groups such as those over 60 will be included in parallel, to reach more than six million immunized people between July and early August.
