This monumental work of engineering will have a repair in 2024 to address any climate change.

Part of the causeway from Caibarién to Cayo Santa María, located in the center of Cuba, will be the subject of an important repair in 2024 that will serve to strengthen the safety of this monumental engineering to face the climate changes.

The Minister of Transportation of Cuba, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, announced on the social network Facebook that during the year Bridge 9 will be repaired and 6,500 m3 of breakwaters will be placed for greater security against natural disasters.

The assembly of one kilometer of defenses and the placement of 4,000 tons of hot asphalt concrete are also planned.

«This road facilitated the construction and operation of around 13,000 hotel rooms and other land and maritime infrastructure works. It promotes tourism management on the northern coast of the Villa Clara province, one of the main destinations of Jardines del Rey archipelago, which extends from Matanzas to Camagüey with about 2,500 keys,” wrote Rodríguez Dávila.

The viaduct, built more than 30 years ago at the direction of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, has 48 kilometers and 48 bridges that connect Cayo Las Brujas, Cayo Ensenachos and Cayo Santa María, in addition to several islets interposed along the route.

It is the longest causeway in Cuba, which constitutes an important factor in the economic development of the country since it covers around 14 km of high quality beaches, the main attraction for foreign visitors.
