International Convention on Environment and Development Begins

The 15th International Convention on Environment and Development opened today in Havana and runs until July 5. Its theme is “More awareness for a healthy environment.”

The event, held at the Convention Center and the Palco Hotel, is attended by some 700 delegates from all Cuban provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.

The convention brings together a wide range of events, with a total of seven congresses: the 15th Conference on Environmental Education for Sustainable Development, the 14th Conference on Protected Areas, the 10th Conference on Ecosystem and Biodiversity Management, the 12th Conference on Environmental Management, the 3rd Conference on Geospatial Sciences and Disaster Risk, the 8th Conference on Climate Change, the 7th Conference on Environmental Policy, Justice, and Law, the 6th Conference on Transportation and the Environment, and the 9th Symposium on Natural History Museums.

The program includes the presentation of the 2024 National Student Researcher, Young Researcher, and Young Technologist Awards to a group of 59 young people from different fields of knowledge, the Symposium on Young People with Environmental Awareness for Sustainable Development, the panel on Women in Science and the Environment, and the Second International Meeting of Foundations and Civil Society Organizations United for the Climate.

The Meeting of Cubans for the Environment and Sustainable Development, the forum on Development, Governance, and Just Transition for Sustainable Municipalities in Cuba, and the panels on Beyond Environmental Challenges: Innovative Financial Solutions Promoted by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and The Role of the Mi Costa Project in Increasing Resilience to Climate Change in Cuba’s Coastal Zone will also be held. The 15th International Convention on Environment and Development includes an associated Exhibition Fair for environmental technologies, projects, and experiences, where around thirty stands will showcase advances in marine science, research being conducted at research centers, as well as various experiences associated with communication, sanitation, and recycling, among others.
