To commemorate the centenary of the father of Cuban Speleology, the “Antonio Núñez Jiménez” centenary group was created in Villa Clara, a work team made up of more than 50 scientists and researchers from all over the country.

The speleologist Luis Orlando Grande González, who had the privilege of being one of the crew members of the international expedition known as “Canoeing from the Amazon to the Caribbean”, was one of those who promoted along with Luis Enrique Miranda Nicado and José Luis de Armas Camacho the creation of this group that pays homage to the fourth discoverer of Cuba.

Since its inception, the members of the “Antonio Núñez Jiménez” Pro Centennial Group have participated in dissimilar activities. They recently searched for and traveled the path that Column 8 Ciro Redondo followed in 1958 to reach the “Marta Abreu” Central University of Las Villas.

Alfredo Pérez Carratalá, professor of Anthropology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Central University, was one of the students of Antonio Núñez Jiménez and today expresses feeling very proud to be part of this group that pays homage to the creator of the “Nature and the Man” Foundation.
