Environmental education and sustainable development. Its relationship with university extension tasks.
Summary
Nowadays, universities are faced with the challenge of managing the integral education of students. This purpose is materialised in the Chemical Engineering course at the “Marta Abreu” Central University of Las Villas, through the development of curricular and extracurricular activities, based on the actions defined in the Educational Strategy. In this sense, the present work presents actions for the promotion of environmental education for sustainable development, carried out during the professional practices of second year students. These exchanges contribute to achieving commitment with the community, to contribute to the search for harmonious solutions between human activities, the environment and the improvement of the quality of life, while at the same time fostering awareness of citizens’ duties and rights. They argue critically and creatively about the situations identified. Examples are given for entities belonging to the food industry.
