“I call on you to do Journalism with the heart pump,” said Roxana Soto del Sol, president of the Union of Cuban Journalists in Villa Clara, minutes before leaving the traditional route through the arteries of the capital city to the Parque de los Mártires —adjacent to the railway station—, where tribute was paid to the National Hero José Martí to inaugurate the Cuban Press Day in this central province.

There, a representation of colleagues from all the media in the provincial capital participated in a brief but emotional conversation about the imprint of the most universal of Cubans in the printed letters of this land and the world.

The voice of the National Journalism Award “José Martí” for the work of life José Antonio Fulgueiras Domínguez, was the protagonist to chronicle essential anecdotes in our history.

The Cuban press day in Villa Clara also includes the presentation of several doctoral theses applied to the media, the meeting of retirees from the union with young graduates, the exhibition of thirty drawings for the 55th birthday of the humorous supplement Melaíto and the tributes to the provincial station CMHW and Radio Sagua for their 90th and 40th anniversaries, respectively.
