The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, highlighted the work of the country’s scientists, on the occasion of celebrating Science Day in the Caribbean nation today.
“Congratulations to the Cuban scientists, who demonstrate every day that #SíSePuede,” the president wrote on his Twitter account.
In his message, the Head of State thanked the example represented by the Cuban scientific community and pointed out that “with talent, discipline and perseverance we can develop and you are our best inspiration.”
Díaz-Canel also shared on the social network the words of the historic leader, Fidel Castro, who expressed that “the survival of the Revolution and Socialism, the preservation of the independence of this country depends today, fundamentally, on science and technology ”.
The Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero, also congratulated the scientists and highlighted the contributions they make to the Caribbean nation.
“You are the dream come true of our Commander in Chief Fidel,” he stressed.
Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of Popular Power, also congratulated the workers in the scientific sector. On his Twitter account, he highlighted the achievements of men and women of science throughout the history of the Caribbean nation and stressed that “they are the pride of the Homeland, the result of Fidel’s vision and the work of the Revolution.”
For his part, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda, said on his social networks that Cuba honors its scientists every day.
“Invaluable has been his work for more than sixty years, which in the last three has also become a constant challenge. We have the commitment to continue working on the permanent development of Science in the Health sector and we will comply with it. Thank you for, with intelligence and commitment, overcoming so many obstacles and from the most diverse scenarios in the country, also turning your work into a commitment to life,” the minister wrote.
During the national act this Saturday for Cuban Science Day, in Sancti Spíritus, the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, considered 2023 as a year of challenges and hopes.
The headline said that in the current year difficulties will have to be faced, but with the same spirit displayed in the previous one, triumphs can be obtained in the scientific and investigative work in the country, since the political will for it prevails.
She, also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, highlighted the effort made by the Cuban scientific community in the midst of difficult conditions, exacerbated by the iron economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States government against the Antillean island.
Pérez Montoya placed particular emphasis on the cohesive work between the highest political and government authorities and scientists in confronting the covid-19 pandemic, which facilitated, he said, the design of five vaccines against this disease, as well as the manufacture of pulmonary ventilators that allow the country to have a greater response capacity in the face of a critical situation.
Since 1990, Cuba has celebrated Science Day on January 15, to recognize the work of workers and the country’s achievements in this area, which, during 2023, will have innovation as the central axis of the strategy for scientific development.
