Havana, Mar 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuba will be represented at the fourth meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development, which will take place virtually from today until the 18th, an official source reported.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Mincex), the event is organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Cepal), in coordination with the government of Costa Rica, in its capacity as president pro tempore of this organism.

The Forum will analyze the progress, setbacks and challenges that persist in the region for the implementation and follow-up of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development, in the midst of a health and economic crisis caused by Covid-19.

As part of the event, a dialogue will be held between ministers and high authorities on the resilient and sustainable recovery of the pandemic, in which the head of the Mincex, Rodrigo Malmierca, will participate for Cuba. The Tenth Board of Directors of the Committee for South-South Cooperation, a subsidiary body of ECLAC in charge of promoting the strengthening and expansion of this modality of international cooperation for development, will also meet, where the representation will be in charge of the vice-head of Mincex Déborah Rivas.

The Cuban delegation will also be made up of other officials from the Ministries of Foreign Trade, Economy and Planning, and Foreign Relations, and from the National Statistics Office, pillar bodies of the National Group for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

Cuba currently holds the Vice Presidency of the Commission and its Committee on South-South Cooperation. The event also includes the holding of a regional workshop on the voluntary national reviews of Latin America and the Caribbean, and a meeting of the Mechanism for the participation of civil society in the regional Forum on Sustainable Development and the 2030 Agenda, where several organizations of civil society in the area.
