The general director of Joven Club de Computación y Electrónica, José Carlos Cruz, received the certificate from the general deputy secretary of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Tomas Lamanauskas, and Cubarte’s deputy director of Business, Yanet Tomé, the one conferred on The Ballot, delivered by the Director of Standardization of the ITU, Seizo Onoe.
The initiatives of Club Móvil Joven Ecológico from the Joven Club de Computación y Electrónica and La Papeleta competed in the chapter dedicated to Information and Communication Infrastructure.
Both projects are based on the principle of using modern Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to bring inclusion to society, facing the challenge of humanity to move towards sustainable development without relegating people.
Cuban institutions linked to inclusive access to computerization and culture today received the status of champions at the Forum of the World Summit on the Information Society (CMSI) that is meeting in Geneva, a Swiss city.
The Cuban delegation to the WSIS Forum, which is meeting here from March 13 to 17, is headed by the First Deputy Minister of Communications, Wilfredo González, accompanied by the Cuban ambassador to UN-Geneva, Juan Antonio Quintanilla.
The World Summit on the Information Society began under the auspices of the United Nations in two phases, Geneva-2003 and Tunis-2005, with the priorities of helping to reduce the existing digital divide between developing and industrialized countries and promoting the universal access to ICT.
