The Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (CECMED) evaluated the reports presented by the Finlay Vaccine Institute and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology on the Cuban anti-COVID-19 Soberana Plus and Abdala vaccines, and issued a positive opinion in favor of booster doses.
As published by the entity on its website, evidence of the need for its administration was shown six months after the completion of the approved immunization scheme against the pandemic in the country.
Both institutions presented available data on the safety and ability of vaccines to reactivate the immune response, the note said. It clarifies that the strategy for applying the booster dose will be carried out in a phased manner and will be defined by the Ministry of Public Health.
