After several technical meetings, the first official meeting with the WHO is expected to be held this month to include Cuban vaccines against COVID-19 in the emergency use list of this organization.

Today the booster vaccination against COVID-19 in health workers and BioCubaFarma begins in the capital, which will be extended in a staggered manner, according to the Minsap website.

Dr. Ileana Morales Suárez, National Director of Science and Technological Research at Minsap, specified that vaccination will begin at the Manuel Fajardo, Joaquín Albarrán, Salvador Allende and Miguel Enríquez hospitals.

Soberana Plus will be applied, and during the week other workers from that sphere from the rest of the country will join the vaccination.

It is awaiting the approval of a study with candidate Soberana 01, after which it will be used in other institutions in Havana and in Cienfuegos.

Dagmar García Rivera, IFV Research Director, added that the evidence shows a favorable duration of the response in those vaccinated with both immunogens, and that the results of the booster are positive, as well as the booster of Soberana 01 for those immunized with the Pfizer vaccine.

By the end of this month, it is expected to begin to strengthen the general population, with Abdala, starting with the first municipalities to join the immunization: Guanabacoa, San Miguel del Padrón, Habana del Este and Regla; and then in Boyeros, Cotorro and Arroyo Naranjo. At the same time, it can be vaccinated the high-risk territories.

Dr. Miladys Limonta Fernández, coordinator of CIGB’s anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidate development projects, highlighted the suitability of Abdala as a booster dose.

She noted that it has demonstrated this ability in convalescent individuals, in subjects vaccinated with other formulations, such as Sputnik and Sinopharm, and in those who have been immunized five months earlier with the full Soberana 02 plus Plus schedule, as well as Abdala.

In addition, the use of Abdala for the administration of booster doses is effective in those over and under 60 years of age. After several technical meetings, the first official meeting with the WHO is expected to be held this month to include Cuban vaccines against COVID-19 in the emergency use list of this organization.
