The 21st edition of the Caribbean Internet Governance Forum (CIGF) will take place in Varadero from August 20 to 22. Convened by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union and in collaboration with the Government of Cuba, the forum will offer in-person and virtual sessions.
The event’s program, which will bring together technologists, academics, youth leaders, and civil society actors, also includes the 4th Caribbean Youth Internet Governance Forum and will address topics related to the United Nations (UN) Global Digital Compact, online security, and resilient and sustainable digital connectivity, among other interesting topics.
The Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) will hold this meeting in Cuba for the first time. It began in 2005 and has been instrumental in creating the Caribbean Internet Governance Policy Framework, establishing Internet exchange points, and strengthening regional capacities in digital governance.
According to the program obtained by ACN, workshops, roundtables, and interactive meetings will be held, reports on national and regional Internet governance will be presented, and a special session on Cuba will be held.
Specialists from the Ministry of Communications of the Caribbean island nation stated that holding the CIGF in Cuba represents the country’s commitment to digital transformation, technological sovereignty, and active participation in regional and global Internet governance processes.
