Havana, Apr 5 (ACN) For the first time in a virtual way, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the IX Convention of Earth Sciences (Geosciences) begins today in a considerable number of institutions of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The deliberations will be until next Friday, the Master in Science Kenya Núñez Cambra, president of the National Executive Bureau of the Cuban Geology Society (SCG), reported exclusively to the Cuban News Agency.
The program of the international Geosciences meeting includes five congresses on issues related to the development of Cuba’s mining geology, environment, oil and gas, according to Núñez Cambra, whose organization has been its main promoter since the first one in 2010.

They promote the dissemination of geosciences in Cuba
Also risk management in general and water reservoirs in particular, the study of agromena and other matters of great importance for the socio-economic boom of the nation.
Delegates from all provinces participate in the sessions, with important contributions related to Geosciences.
For this, the professionals of the sector can gather in the Central Palace of Computation, in the National Museum of Natural History of Cuba and in the Institute of Geology and Paleontology (Geological Service of Cuba).
In addition, at the Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy, at the Petroleum Polytechnic Center, at the Geominero-Salinero Business Group (GEOMINSAL) and at the National Office of Mineral Resources.
Its remaining headquarters in Havana are the Military Company for Projects and Research, the Petroleum Research Centers and the Research Center for the Mining and Metallurgical Industry.
The VIII Convention on Earth Sciences took place from April 5 to 9, 2019 at the Havana Convention Center, along with an exhibition of Products, New Technologies and Services for Geosciences.
The first bibliography on geology in Cuba is due in 1877 to the Spanish geologist Manuel Fernández de Castro and closer in time the Cuban Digital Library of Geosciences gathers some 5,905 bibliographic references and 3,246 in digital format.
The existence of so many compilations denotes the interest of researchers to present their results and provide future professionals with a computer base that would serve as the basis for their work and also constitutes recognition of the broad scientific work of generations of outstanding professionals.
